Pyeongtaek Mayor Choi Won-yong Urges Ministry of Land to Support Semiconductor Cluster Transportation Network

Pyeongtaek City announced that Mayor Choi Won-yong visited the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 7th and, in a meeting with the Second Vice Minister, called on the government to provide active policy support for key road and railway projects.

The meeting was held to preemptively respond to Pyeongtaek's explosively growing transportation demand driven by the development of a semiconductor mega-cluster and large-scale new town projects, and to expand an efficient wide-area transportation network.

Pyeongtaek Mayor Choi Won-yong presented key pending issues, including △the wide-area transportation improvement measures for the Pyeongtaek Jije Station area public housing district (GTX-A, C, and a bypass road for National Route 38, etc.) △the extension of the Sinansan Line to Anjung △and the construction of a new KTX station in southern Gyeonggi. He then requested the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's special attention and full cooperation so that the projects can be pursued in a timely and swift manner.

Pyeongtaek City anticipates that if these projects proceed without setbacks, not only will traffic congestion within the city center be dramatically eased, but balanced development between the eastern and western regions and accessibility to the metropolitan area will be greatly strengthened. Through this, the city expects Pyeongtaek to establish itself as a genuine transportation and logistics hub in the southern Gyeonggi region.

Mayor Choi emphasized, “Pyeongtaek is a key hub of the nation's advanced industries and a dynamic city that continues to grow, but the transportation infrastructure that residents experience is still lacking,” adding, “The projects proposed today must be carried out first for the successful settlement of national advanced industries and the guarantee of residents' mobility rights, so I ask the Ministry of Land for its active decision-making and support.”

Pyeongtaek City plans to further strengthen its close cooperation system with central government departments and related agencies on the occasion of this meeting, and to concentrate all administrative capabilities so that the proposed major pending projects can lead to tangible results.
