Hwaseong Special City Designates 6 Additional Alleyway-Type Shopping Districts... Eligible for Onnuri Gift Certificates
Hwaseong Special City has designated six additional alleyway-type shopping districts to invigorate alleyway commercial areas and strengthen support for local small business owners.
As a result, the number of alleyway-type shopping districts within Hwaseong Special City has increased from the existing 7 to a total of 13.
On the 6th, the city held the ‘First 2026 Advisory Committee for the Revitalization of Traditional Markets and Shopping Districts,’ where it reviewed and approved the agenda for the additional designation of alleyway-type shopping districts, designating six locations as alleyway-type shopping districts on the same day.
The six locations designated this time are △Hyangnam District 2 Rodeo Shopping District Alleyway-Type Shopping District △Haengjeong Jungang 2-ro Alleyway-Type Shopping District △Namyang Rodeo Shopping District Alleyway-Type Shopping District △Saesol-dong Shopping District Alleyway-Type Shopping District △Dongtan-daero 4-gil Alleyway-Type Shopping District △Dongtan Grand Passage Alleyway-Type Shopping District.
Alleyway-type shopping districts are designated through review by the advisory committee after receiving applications from shopping districts that meet certain requirements, such as the establishment of a merchants' association, store density, and the rate of merchant consent. Once designated as an alleyway-type shopping district, a district can register as an Onnuri gift certificate affiliate store and participate in various support projects for fostering shopping districts.
This additional designation was pursued to breathe new life into alleyway commercial areas struggling amid economic downturn and shrinking consumption, and to enhance the self-sufficiency and competitiveness of small business owners. Through the expansion of alleyway-type shopping districts, the city plans to promote local consumption and broaden the support foundation tailored to the characteristics and conditions of each commercial area.
Hwaseong Special City Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun said, “This additional designation is significant in that it has established a practical support foundation for alleyway commercial areas based on the efforts of local merchants and voices from the field,” adding, “We will carefully pursue support policies that reflect the characteristics of each commercial area so that alleyway-type shopping districts can add new vitality to local consumption and commerce.”
