Hwaseong Special City: Citizens Moved by 'Andante Cantabile' Melodies at the Library
Hwaseong Special City (Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun) held the ‘Classical Music On the Go III’ performance together with the Hwaseong City Orchestra at Hwaseong Dongtan Central Library on the 12th, offering citizens a chance to enjoy classical music in their everyday lives.
‘Classical Music On the Go’ is a program in which the Hwaseong City Arts Troupe visits citizens' living spaces directly to perform classical music. This performance was arranged so that citizens could enjoy the orchestra's live playing up close in the familiar setting of a library.
In particular, when 100 audience members were recruited, applications closed early, reflecting the high level of interest from citizens even before the performance.
The performance began with Tchaikovsky's ‘Andante Cantabile,’ followed by a ‘Sound of Music Medley,’ Tchaikovsky's ‘Waltz of the Flowers,’ and other familiar yet varied pieces. The audience enjoyed the appeal of classical music while appreciating a diverse range of works, from grand orchestral pieces to familiar melodies.
In particular, being able to appreciate the live playing of professional performers up close in the library—a space familiar for reading books and using materials—offered the audience a novel cultural experience. It was also a time to enjoy the performance with family and neighbors, experiencing the library as a space for enjoying not only reading but also various forms of culture.
Hwaseong Dongtan Central Library operates various programs in connection with the region's cultural and artistic resources so that citizens can naturally encounter culture and the arts close to their daily lives.
Yun Mi-yeong, head of the Library Policy Division, said, “We hope this was a time for citizens to enjoy books and music together and experience new culture in the familiar setting of a library,” adding, “We will further enrich our programs by connecting the region's diverse cultural and artistic resources with the library, so that anyone can encounter and enjoy culture close to home.”
