'Great Transformation of Gyeonggi Education, Done Right and Big!'... Sweeping Organizational Reform Undertaken
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jeong Jun-seong] The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education will carry out an organizational reform of its main office on the 1st of next month to promote the key pledges announced by Superintendent Ahn Min-seok in his inaugural address for the 6th popularly elected term.
Centering on the superintendent's major policy goals such as RAS education, wall-breaking cooperation, and democratic citizenship education, the provincial office of education will establish relevant divisions and duties within its organization.
This organizational reform is significant in that it marks the beginning of mid- to long-term reform in line with the slogan 'Great Transformation of Gyeonggi Education, Done Right and Big!' and lays a solid organizational foundation.
Among the major reforms, first, a 'RAS Education Division' will be established within the Regional Education Bureau. It plans to promote RAS education, which changes school culture and ecosystems by integrating reading education, arts and culture education, and sports education—all essential in the era of artificial intelligence (AI).
Next, the Regional Education Policy Division of the Regional Education Bureau will be renamed the 'Wall-Breaking Cooperation Division.' The name expresses a will toward change and innovation to overcome the various barriers of the existing organization and produce tangible results.
In addition, a 'Democratic Citizenship Education Division' will be established within the Regional Education Bureau, firing the starting signal for the revival of democratic citizenship education. It plans to work to cultivate a mature school culture in which teachers, students, and parents all respect and are respected.
The Digital Education Policy Division of the Digital Talent Bureau will be newly renamed the 'AI Education Policy Division.' It plans to promote AI education policy as a 'people-centered AI education system' and to supplement and expand the AI education platform.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education said, "This organizational reform aims at the great transformation of Gyeonggi education and is the beginning stage of laying the foundation for promoting the Gyeonggi superintendent's key pledges," adding, "We will continue to strive to establish an educational administration system for the great transformation of Gyeonggi education."
Meanwhile, the amendment to the enforcement rules of the ordinance on the establishment of administrative organizations of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, which contains the details of this organizational reform, will undergo legislative pre-announcement from August 3 to 7 and take effect from September 1.
