A : That's too BAD! I've got to find him. It's urgent! If I can't find him today, I'll be dead!
B : Well, why don't you call Michelle? She has his phone number.
A : I've tried, but no one ANSWERED!
B : Oh, you are so dead!

‘off hand’는 ‘즉석에서, 준비 없이’라는 의미인데, 위의 대화처럼 ‘지금 당장’이라는 의미로도 사용됩니다. ‘off hand’가 사용된 표현으로는 ‘tell off hand’ ‘즉석에서 말하다’, ‘speak off hand’ ‘즉석에서 연설하다’, ‘an off-hand speech’ ‘즉석 연설’ 등이 있습니다.
Ex) My grandfather used to make up a funny story off hand. (나의 할아버지는 즉석에서 재미있는 이야기를 지어내곤 하셨다.)
