A: Don’t ask Jenny for any advice, she’s really mean!
B: Is she mean or honest? I’ve known her to be more of a straight shooter myself.
A: I asked her what she thought of my outfit and she said it was the worst thing she’d ever seen.
B: Well, you did ask for her opinion.
A: Yes, but she didn’t have to be so rude giving it!
B: I suppose she could have had a little more tact when offering her opinion, but at least she’s honest.
A : Jenny에게 충고를 구하지마. 걔 정말 못됐어!
B : 못됐다는 거야 아니면 정직하다는 거야? 나는 Jenny를 정직한 사람으로 알아왔는데.
A : 내가 내 옷에 대해서 어떻게 생각하는지 물었는데 자기가 본 최악이라고 말했어.
B : 글쎄, 네가 의견을 물은 거잖아.
A : 응, 하지만 그렇게 무례하게 충고할 필요는 없었잖아.
B : Jenny가 의견을 말할 때 조금 더 요령이 있었어야 했던 거 같다. 하지만 적어도 정직하잖아.

‘straight shooter’는 정직한 사람, 법규를 잘 지키는 사람을 가리키는 표현입니다. 같은 의미의 비슷한 표현으로는 ‘straight arrow’가 있습니다.
Ex) Your friend, Kevin is not a straight arrow. I just don’t trust him. 네 친구 Kevin은 정직한 사람이 아니야. 나는 그냥 그를 믿지 않아.
‘tact’는 ‘요령, 눈치, 재치’라는 의미이며 비슷한 형태의 ‘tactic’은 ‘전략, 전술’이라는 뜻입니다.
Ex) Settling the dispute require great tact and diplomacy. 그 분쟁을 해결하는 것은 대단한 요령과 외교술이 요구되었다.
