A: Ever since Steve got a new girlfriend it’s been hard to get him to hang out with us.
B: Why do you think that is?
A: Well, since they’ve started dating they’ve been joined at the hip.
B: What? You mean literally joined at the hip?
A: No, not literally! Are you feeling ok today?
B: Yeah, sorry! I’m not thinking clearly.
A : Steve가 새로운 여자친구가 생긴 이후로 그와 어울리기가 힘들어.
B : 왜 그렇다고 생각해?
A : 글쎄, 데이트를 시작한 이후로 항상 붙어있는 것 같던데.
B : 뭐? 네 말은 그들이 말 그대로 붙어있다고?
A : 아니, 말 그대로가 아니고! 너 오늘 괜찮아?
B : 응, 미안해! 지금은 또렷하게 생각할 수가 없어.

‘be joined at the hip’은 ‘항상 붙어 다니다, 일심동체가 되다’라는 의미로 비슷한 표현으로는 ‘be as thick as thieves 아주 가까운’가 있습니다. 위의 대화 중 ‘You mean literally joined at the hip?’은 말 그대로 마치 샴 쌍둥이(Siamese twins)처럼 몸의 일부가 붙어있는지를 묻는 것입니다.
Ex) I can go to Europe without Sam. We’re not joined at the hip. 나는 Sam 없이 유럽을 갈 수 있어. 우리 항상 붙어 다니진 않아.
