A: Looks like you've just missed your flight by 5 minutes ma'am.
B: Just my luck! Can I reschedule another flight?
A: We won't have another flight ready to your destination until tomorrow I'm afraid.
B: What a terrible set of circumstances that have befallen me.
A: The earliest flight we have is tomorrow at 10 o'clock in the morning, is that alright?
B: I suppose it will have to do, thank you for your help.
A : 5분차로 비행기를 놓치신 것 같습니다, 부인.
B : 제 운이죠! 다른 비행기로 일정을 변경할 수 있을까요?
A : 가시는 목적지까지 가시는 다른 비행기가 준비가 되지 않을 것 같아 걱정입니다.
B : 이렇게 안 좋은 상황들이 닥치다니.
A : 내일 가장 빠른 비행기가 오전 10시인데, 괜찮으실까요?
B : 그렇게 해야겠네요. 도와주셔서 감사해요.

‘circumstances’는 주로 복수로 사용되며 ‘환경, 상황, 형편’이라는 의미를 가지고 있습니다. ‘a terrible set of circumstances’는 연속적으로 일어나는 안 좋은 상황을 뜻합니다.
Ex) How were you able to recover from such a terrible set of circumstances? 어떻게 그러한 안 좋은 상황들을 극복하실 수 있었습니까?
befall은 주로 3인칭에 대해서만 사용되며 의미는 ‘(안 좋은 일이) ~에게 닥치다 (Something happens to somebody.)’입니다.
Ex) A similar accident has befallen several people in this village for the past three days. 비슷한 사건이 이 마을의 몇몇 사람들에게 지난 3일 동안 일어났다.
