A: Thank you for finishing that project so early for me, but it's all for naught. We've lost the bid.
B: I had a feeling when the boss walked through the office that things weren't going well in regards to this.
A: Shame to think that this will go to waste.
B: I don't think so. Perhaps we can modify this for some of our other projects.
A: Who's really going to want a 3-meter high mechanical pink bunny?
B: Not sure, but you can never know for certain.
A : 프로젝트를 빨리 끝내주셔서 감사하지만 모든 게 헛수고가 되었네요. 입찰에서 우리가 졌어요.
B : 사장님이 사무실을 들어오셨을 때부터 입찰에 관련된 일이 잘 되지 않을 것 같은 느낌이 있었어요.
A : 이것이 헛된 일이 되었다고 생각하니 애석하네요.
B : 저는 그렇게 생각하지 않아요. 어쩌면 이것을 다른 프로젝트를 위해 조금 변경할 수 있을 거에요.
A : 누가 3미터 높이의 분홍색 기계 토끼를 원할까요?
B : 글쎄요. 하지만 확실하게는 모르잖아요.

‘naught’는 ‘제로, 영, 무가치’라는 의미의 명사로 ‘all for naught’는 ‘헛되이, 부질없이’라는 의미가 됩니다.
Ex) We were very disappointed that the work was done all for naught. 우리는 그 일이 부질 없이 되어 매우 실망하였다.
‘go to waste’는 ‘폐물이 되다, 쓸모 없이 되다, 낭비가 되다’라는 의미이며 ‘go’대신 ‘run’을 사용하여도 같은 의미가 됩니다.
Ex) To be honest, the water is running to waste. 솔직히 말하면 그 물은 낭비되고 있다.
