영화에서 흔히 ‘반전’이 있는지 없는지 많이 이야기 하는데 영어로는 ‘twist’입니다.
‘on the edge of one’s seat’은 직역하면 ‘의자 가장자리에, 끝에’라는 의미가 되는데 정확한 의미는‘closely following the action and excitement of a performance’로, 주로 관객이 굉장히 흥분하거나 몰입하여 의자 끝에 걸터앉아 보는 행위에서 유래되었습니다.
Ex) We sat on the edge of our seats during the entire play. 우리는 연극 내내 완전히 몰입하였습니다.
‘done for’는 ‘killed, destroyed 죽은, 파괴된, 끝장 난’을 의미하는 형용사 구입니다.
Ex) When he pointed the gun at me, I thought I was done for. 그가 총을 나에게 겨눌 때 나는 완전히 끝장 났다고 생각했다.
