Jangan-gu District Mayor Kim In-bae Strengthens Emergency Inspections for Heat Wave Response

Kim In-bae, District Mayor of Jangan-gu in Suwon Special City, has further strengthened the emergency response system that puts residents' safety first in response to the ongoing extreme heat wave.

On the 7th, Jangan-gu held an 'emergency meeting on heat wave response' presided over by the district mayor and attended by all department heads of the district office, carefully inspecting whether sector-specific measures, such as protecting vulnerable groups and ensuring the safety of outdoor workers, are operating without a hitch in the field.

On this day, District Mayor Kim In-bae emphasized, "Vulnerable groups such as the elderly and people with disabilities are more greatly affected by the heat wave, so special attention is needed," adding, "Since outdoor workers face a high risk of heat-related illness, we must closely monitor whether protective measures such as observing break times and securing rest areas are being properly maintained."

Currently, Jangan-gu is pursuing measures including △a comprehensive inspection and extended operation of cooling shelters at senior centers △inspection of air conditioners at senior centers and support for cooling costs △distribution of summer supplies to field workers such as environmental management staff △installation and operation of heat-reduction facilities at parks within the district.

District Mayor Kim In-bae urged, "There must not be the slightest gap in matters directly related to residents' safety," adding, "I ask that all public officials build a tight safety net with a sense of responsibility to minimize damage from the heat wave."
