The Suwon Special City Council (Chairwoman Kim Mi-kyung) visited the Suwon Agricultural and Marine Products Wholesale Market on the 11th to examine the current status of market operations and listen to the difficulties faced by on-site stakeholders, including wholesale dealers.
This on-site visit was arranged to directly hear voices from the field regarding measures to revitalize the operation of the Suwon Agricultural and Marine Products Wholesale Market proposed by the Korea Agricultural Products Wholesale Dealers Cooperative Federation, and to jointly seek ways to improve the market use environment and strengthen competitiveness.
On this day, in addition to Chairwoman Kim Mi-kyung, the site was attended by Councilor Kang Eun-ho (Democratic Party of Korea, Seryu 2·3·Gwonseon 1-dong), Councilor Jeong Yun-woo (People Power Party, Seryu 2·3·Gwonseon 1-dong), the director of the Suwon City Agricultural Technology Center, the manager of the Agricultural and Marine Products Wholesale Market Management Division, the manager of the Local Economy Division, and wholesale dealer representatives.
The participants were briefed on the current status of the agricultural and marine products wholesale market operations and exchanged opinions while listening to proposals related to market operations, including △exemption of facility usage fees for the wholesale dealers' federation office within the wholesale market and △downward adjustment of the minimum transaction amount.
Chairwoman Kim Mi-kyung said, "As the agricultural and marine products wholesale market is an important infrastructure of daily life that connects citizens' food supply with the local economy, there is a need to carefully examine the difficulties and opinions felt directly on-site." She added, "We will closely examine, together with the relevant departments, how the proposals made today can actually help market operations, and the Council will continue to take an interest in creating a better market environment."
