Haenggung-dong, Paldal-gu, Suwon (head of dong Choi Young-hee) announced that the Suwon Young Merchants Association (chairperson Jeong Ji-young) held the second ‘Haenggung-dong Plogging Run’ on the 9th at Hwahong Sarangchae, together with ‘Code Project,’ a Suwon-area running crew.

This event, following the first plogging run, was the second plogging event organized by the Suwon Young Merchants Association together with the local community. Marking the ‘2026-2027 Year of Visiting Suwon,’ it was carried out to present a clean and pleasant urban environment to citizens and tourists visiting Haenggung-dong and to add vitality to the local commercial district.

About 50 people, including Young Merchants Association members, runners, and residents, participated in the event that day. Suwon Special City Council member Choi Seong-ho, Suwon Tourism Division head Hwang Myeong-hee, and Haenggung-dong head Choi Young-hee visited the site to encourage participants and lend their support to the plogging activities of the Suwon Young Merchants Association and Code Project.

Participants gathered at Hwahong Sarangchae and then carried out environmental cleanup activities, running and walking along Suwoncheon Stream, Haenggung Square, Paldalsan Mountain, and other major tourist sites and alleyways of Haenggung-dong while collecting trash from various places.

In addition, merchant association members are continuously carrying out voluntary environmental maintenance activities in which they clean up the areas around their shops and pedestrian paths themselves, creating a culture in which local merchants personally tend to the neighborhood environment and contribute to the local community.

Jeong Ji-young, chairperson of the Suwon Young Merchants Association, said, “It was meaningful to hold the second event following the first plogging run, allowing local merchants and runners to once again run and walk together throughout Haenggung-dong,” adding, “So that visitors to Haenggung-dong can experience a clean and vibrant local area, the merchants association will take the lead in tending to the environment and will continue activities together with the local community.”

Lee Chang-woo and Oh Eun-ji, representatives of Code Project (a Suwon running crew), said, “Taking part in the second plogging run following the previous event is highly significant in that running and environmental cleanup activities are developing into local content that naturally combines the two,” adding, “Going forward, together with the Suwon Young Merchants Association, we will continue to create running content that citizens can enjoyably participate in while promoting various parts of Suwon.”

Haenggung-dong head Choi Young-hee said, “I thank the Suwon Young Merchants Association and Code Project, who voluntarily participated for the second plogging run, as well as everyone who joined us,” adding, “The sight of local merchants, citizens, runners, and public officials tending to various parts of Haenggung-dong together is also a great force in revitalizing the local community.”
