Gyeonggi Province Launches Four-Day Eulji Drill Starting August 18 to Prepare for War and Terrorism

Gyeonggi Province will conduct Eulji drills from August 18 to 21 for four days in coordination with municipal and county governments, military units at corps level, Gyeonggi Northern and Southern Police Agencies, and the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Management Headquarters to establish regional emergency preparedness.

The Eulji drill is a nationwide emergency preparedness exercise implemented at the government-wide level to protect the lives and property of citizens in the event of national emergencies such as war or terrorism.

The exercise will begin on the first day with an initial situation report presided over by Governor Choo Mi-ae, followed by wartime command structure formation training, operation of wartime integrated situation rooms and wartime established organizations, and resident relocation drills in six frontline cities and counties including Gimpo.

On the second day of the exercise, a representative Gyeonggi Province drill will be conducted at the Hwaseong City Agricultural Technology Center on the theme of protecting North Korean refugees, with related agencies practicing integrated response capabilities to contingencies such as disturbances that may occur during refugee relief operations.

On the third day, a nationwide civil defense drill in preparation for air raids is scheduled for 2 p.m., with resident participation-oriented drills including evacuation of visitors from multi-use facilities and clearing paths for emergency vehicles.

The province plans to verify the effectiveness of the current emergency preparedness plan through this Eulji drill and strengthen integrated response capabilities among civilians, government agencies, military, police, and fire departments in the event of a national emergency.
