Gyeonggi Province has been selected as the nation's top-tier agency in the "2026 Special Evaluation of Outstanding Livestock Quarantine Cases by Local Governments" held by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has annually evaluated the livestock quarantine performance of local governments since 2005, discovering and recognizing outstanding cases. The evaluation was conducted by comprehensively assessing quarantine effectiveness of livestock quarantine policies, creativity, and efficiency, including collaboration between local and central governments, targeting all 16 cities and provinces nationwide.

Gyeonggi Province received high marks for implementing prevention-focused quarantine policies including △early shipment and breeding restrictions for ducks, high-risk species for highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) during winter △operation of mobile guide barriers to block migratory bird access to farms △strengthening management of foot-and-mouth disease vaccination to maintain high defense capabilities △operating a dedicated task force (TF) jointly with the central government to prevent African swine fever (ASF) outbreaks △establishing Gyeonggi Province's mid- and long-term comprehensive livestock quarantine measures △establishing a diagnostic system for four disaster-type livestock infectious diseases (highly pathogenic AI, ASF, foot-and-mouth disease, and lumpy skin disease)—the first among local governments.

Rather than limiting its response to after outbreaks of livestock infectious diseases, Gyeonggi Province strengthened preemptive preventive measures considering risk periods and regional characteristics. The province also received recognition for analyzing causes in outbreak areas to develop quarantine facility improvement plans and for linking field opinions to central government policy reforms.

Lee Eun-kyung, head of Gyeonggi Province's Animal Quarantine and Hygiene Division, stated, "The selection as a top-tier agency is the result of joint efforts by provincial and municipal quarantine officials and livestock farmers, including the Animal Health Testing Institute. With the sense of responsibility that Gyeonggi Province's livestock quarantine is also national quarantine, we will continue to make every effort to minimize outbreaks and damage from livestock infectious diseases through proactive prevention and rapid response."

Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province, selected as the top-tier agency, is scheduled to receive a commendation from the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs on the 27th and present Gyeonggi Province's outstanding cases at the nationwide cities and provinces' foot-and-mouth disease and lumpy skin disease workshop on the 28th.
