Gyeonggi Provincial Library and Gyeonggi Research Institute held the 'Gyeonggi Provincial Library AI Forum-Beyond AI, We Are' on the 20th, discussing the values and direction artificial intelligence (AI) should pursue in a society experiencing rapid technological advancement.

The forum proceeded under the theme 'AI for a Better Society' with a keynote speech, designated panel discussions, and a question-and-answer session. AI experts, policy researchers, and provincial residents participated in the event.

The keynote speech was delivered by Yun Seok-won, representative of AIWORKX, an AI data construction company. Yun previously worked as a software engineer at Microsoft and Samsung Electronics. He founded an information technology (IT) startup after witnessing the reality that career-experienced women were unable to secure jobs despite receiving education. Since then, he has been building an inclusive AI ecosystem that connects the strengths of people with developmental disabilities to AI data construction.

Representative Yun Seok-won began his presentation with the question, "For whom is AI actually advancing?" and diagnosed that "as we move beyond generative AI into the era of physical AI, if the benefits of technology become concentrated in certain companies and capital, technological gaps and inequality could intensify."

To address this, he proposed that AI should be a technology that collaborates with humans rather than replacing them, and presented 'core principles for inclusive and sustainable AI' including data sharing for public interest, reliability verification, lightweight AI accessible to everyone, and sustainability considerations for the environment.

In the subsequent designated panel discussion and question-and-answer session, Yun Myung-hee, director of Gyeonggi Provincial Library, served as moderator.

Director Yun Myung-hee stated, "This was a forum to move beyond simplistic technology and industry-oriented discourse, to disseminate human-centered values based on libraries, and to seek mutually beneficial solutions where provincial residents, academia, and industry communicate together to address social side effects of the digital transformation era." She added, "Beginning with this event, we plan to continue joint forums between Gyeonggi Provincial Library and Gyeonggi Research Institute to expand the space for public discussion."
