20th Gyeonggi Province Disabled Athletes Sports Festival Held on 28th in Gapyeong
The Gyeonggi Province Disabled Athletes Sports Association announced that it will host the ‘20th Gyeonggi Province Disabled Athletes Sports Festival 2026 Gapyeong’ for two days from the 28th in Gapyeong County and its surrounding areas.
A total of 4,276 participants, including 1,957 athletes from 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province, as well as officials and guardians, will compete in 19 events including gateball.
The opening ceremony will take place on the 28th at the outdoor stage of Jara Island West in Gapyeong County. Approximately 3,000 people are expected to attend, including Gyeonggi Province Governor Choo Mi-ae, major figures from the provincial and provincial council, cities and counties, and members of athlete delegations. The opening ceremony will feature official proceedings including the entry of city and county athlete delegations, raising of the competition flag, and welcome remarks, as well as diverse cultural events including experience and promotional booths and congratulatory performances.
The Gyeonggi Province Disabled Athletes Sports Association and Gapyeong County are making all-out efforts in safety management, including expanding break times for outdoor events in preparation for extreme heat, operating air-conditioned buses and heat relief shelters.
Baek Gyeong-yeol, Executive Director of the Gyeonggi Province Disabled Athletes Sports Association, said, “We will do our best to ensure this event is remembered as a healthy festival where participant safety is the top priority.”
