Gwacheon City Proposes Educational Structure Improvement and School Choice Rights to Gyeonggi Province Office of Education

Gwacheon City attended a pre-breakfast meeting on the 24th held at the Ansan Office of Education for the Gyeonggi Province Office of Education's ‘Breaking Barriers Policy Agreement’ initiative.

The meeting was organized to closely discuss region-customized educational cooperation tasks between local governments and the education office ahead of the ‘Breaking Barriers Policy Agreement’ to be signed in September between Gyeonggi Province, 31 cities and counties, and the Gyeonggi Province Office of Education.

Prior to the breakfast meeting, Mayor Shin Gye-yong of Gwacheon City directly delivered the ‘Gwacheon City Educational Structure Improvement Implementation Proposal’ for normalizing Gwacheon City's educational structure to Superintendent Ahn Min-seok, and requested the establishment of a 2027 academic year student placement plan that guarantees school choice rights for Gwacheon City students and reflects selection demands.

Additionally, Mayor Shin reiterated a request for review and implementation of the results from the educational structure improvement research project conducted by Gwacheon City last year.

Mayor Shin Gye-yong stated, “I hope a decision will be made as soon as possible with consideration for the urgent feelings of parents and students in Gwacheon City, and Gwacheon City will actively cooperate in any way we can.”
