Namhansanseong "Forest-Surrounded Fortress City - Namhansanseong Autumn Festival" Begins September 5
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 27th that it will hold the '2026 Forest-Surrounded Fortress City - Namhansanseong Autumn Festival' from September 5 to October 25 at the UNESCO World Heritage Site Namhansanseong, where visitors can enjoy traditional culture, ecological and historical experiences, and performances.
Visitors can enjoy the Sueojangdae Guard Experience, traditional craft workshops, history storytelling with refreshments, fortress wall ecological tours, historical experience tours, eco-friendly activities, and family experience plays at various locations throughout Namhansanseong. Various performances blending traditional Korean music with contemporary styles will also be held.
Particularly, from September 24-27 during the Chuseok holiday, the 'Moonlight Stroll' featuring palace concerts and nighttime landscape lighting will be held at the Haenggung Palace.
The Palace Concert will feature performances by Ensemble De Rieu, Nam Sang-il, Project Rock, and Kim Duk-soo in succession, showcasing diverse stages from traditional music to performances combining traditional and contemporary styles. At night, landscape lighting will be installed around the Haenggung Palace area, allowing visitors to enjoy a different view of Namhansanseong than during the day.
During the same period, as part of the '2026 Namhansanseong Promotional Support Project,' experience programs utilizing augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) will also be operated at the Haenggung Palace area. The program will be designed to allow visitors to experience the history and spaces of Namhansanseong in novel ways using digital technology.
The event is free for all visitors. Traditional culture and eco-friendly experience activities are available on weekends and holidays on a first-come, first-served basis without advance reservation. Ecological and historical tours and family experience plays operate on a reservation basis.
Jung Chang-seop, Director of the Gyeonggi Namhansanseong World Heritage Center, said, "Namhansanseong transcends a space of preserving historical heritage to become a world heritage site enjoyed by all citizens today," and added, "Through diverse programs where visitors can directly experience history, nature, and traditional culture, we will transform Namhansanseong into a cultural tourism destination that people will want to visit again."
