Toilet Culture Center to Be Built in Imok-dong, Suwon
Suwon City plans to build a toilet culture center linked to the Haewoojae (解憂齋) exhibition hall in Imok-dong, Jangan-gu, by 2014.
According to the city on the 13th, it plans to build the toilet culture center on a site next to the Haewoojae exhibition hall in Imok-dong, with a project cost of 3 billion won, comprising one basement floor and two above-ground floors with a total floor area of 990㎡.
Earlier, the city received a donation of Haewoojae (total floor area of 418.17㎡), a toilet-shaped residence built with the personal funds of the late Sim Jae-deok, former mayor of Suwon, and has operated it as an exhibition hall after remodeling.
In this process, the city designated 5,190㎡ of the surrounding area as a toilet culture park in October 2009 and used it as a rest space for citizens, but as the number of visitors increased, the need for expansion was raised.
Accordingly, the city plans to purchase an additional 3,183㎡ of land around Haewoojae to build the center and create it as a representative park championing toilet culture.
The center will house an exhibition hall storage room, machine room, hands-on education room, restrooms, offices, an education room, a seminar room, and an audiovisual room.
The city submitted an "opinion-gathering proposal for the decision (revision) of the Suwon Urban Management Plan (Park)" with these contents to the 289th extraordinary session of the Suwon City Council, which opens on the 16th.
A city official said, "Through the construction of the toilet culture center linked to the Haewoojae exhibition hall and the creation of a distinctive park, we plan to widely promote Suwon, the mecca of toilet culture, both at home and abroad."
