'Mangpo–Seoul Station M-Bus' Pushed by Rep. Yeom Tae-young to Begin Operations on August 3

[Suwonilbo=Reporter Jeong Jun-seong] The Mangpo–Seoul Station wide-area express bus (M5165), which National Assembly member Yeom Tae-young pledged during the general election, will begin its first run on August 3.

Rep. Yeom said on the 7th, "We have realized our pledge to give an hour of commuting time back to the residents of Mangpo and Gokseon," adding, "We expect that the commuting conditions of residents in southern Suwon, including Mangpo and Yeongtong, will be greatly improved."

Rep. Yeom presented the 'establishment of the Mangpo–Seoul Station wide-area express bus' as a key transportation pledge in the last general election, and during last year's National Assembly Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee audit, he personally met with Kim Yong-seok, then chairman of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, to explain the need for the new route and requested active review.

Although the Mangpo district is a large-scale residential area home to about 18,000 households, it had no wide-area bus route running directly to downtown Seoul, forcing residents to travel to Yeongtong Station to use the existing M5107 line and endure significant inconvenience. In particular, as the occupancy of new apartments began in earnest, transportation demand increased sharply, and the need for a new wide-area route was consistently raised.

The M5165, which will begin operating this time, departs from the Suwon Southern Bus Public Depot and runs through I'PARK Castle, Mangpo Station, Yeongtong Station, and Cheongmyeong Station to Seoul City Hall and the Seoul Station Bus Transfer Center. It will operate 40 times a day on weekdays, with intervals of 20 to 50 minutes, and access to downtown Seoul is expected to improve significantly.

Rep. Yeom said, "We have now turned our promise to give commuting time back to the residents of Mangpo and Yeongtong into reality," adding, "We expect that the opening of this route will reduce travel times for office workers and students commuting to the Gangbuk area of Seoul and greatly improve transit convenience."

He continued, "This does not end with the route being finalized; we will carefully see to stable operations and user convenience."

Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is sequentially opening five wide-area bus quasi-public operation routes in Icheon, Yangju, Yongin, Suwon, and Uijeongbu to improve wide-area transportation access in the metropolitan area, with the Suwon M5165 route beginning operations on August 3.
