Gyeonggi Province Supports Repair Costs for Neglected Jeonse Fraud Victim Housing
Gyeonggi Province announced it will provide support for repair costs of safety facilities and common and private areas of jeonse fraud victim housing that is not being properly maintained due to landlord absence and other factors. The province will accept applications for the second half of the "Emergency Management Support Project for Jeonse Fraud Victim Housing" from August 26 through September 30.
For eligible housing, support of up to 20 million won will be provided for repairs to common areas including fire safety, elevators, electrical systems, lighting, safety facilities, security equipment, waterproofing, and plumbing. Individual units will receive up to 5 million won per unit for repairs to private areas (interiors).
In cases where units designated as jeonse fraud victim households remain vacant, the costs for fire safety management and elevator maintenance corresponding to those units will also be supported. This is a measure to prevent additional safety accidents and damages to victim housing where landlords are absent or unreachable, resulting in poor building management.
In the first half of this year, Gyeonggi Province provided support for a total of 38 cases. Repairs primarily focused on facilities directly related to residents' residential safety, including waterproofing and leak prevention, heating and plumbing, and fire safety and elevators. In a satisfaction survey, all 38 respondents answered that they were "very satisfied."
Applications can be submitted to the relevant department of the city or county where the victim housing is located. Detailed information is available on the Gyeonggi Province Housing Welfare Portal (https://housing.gg.go.kr/) under "Jeonse Damage Center-Notices" or on the Gyeonggi Housing & Urban Development Corporation website (https://www.gh.or.kr/gh/) under "Information Disclosure-Notices."
Kim Tae-su, director of the Housing Policy Division at Gyeonggi Province, said "This is a project to ensure safety of jeonse fraud victim housing that is difficult to manage due to landlord absence and to alleviate residential anxiety of affected tenants," adding "We will continue to provide support that residents can experience in their daily lives."
