Gwangju Tanbul District to Develop 1,072-Unit Residential Complex

Gyeonggi Province announced on the 25th that it has designated 111,660 square meters in the Tanbul-dong area of Gwangju as the ‘Gwangju Tanbul District Urban Development Zone’ at the request of Gwangju City and has established a development plan for creating a residential complex with 1,072 units.

The Tanbul District will host multi-unit housing for 1,072 households capable of accommodating 2,573 residents, along with urban infrastructure including parks, green spaces, and roads.

In particular, the multi-unit housing and parks within the district will be linked with the nearby Gwangju Central Neighborhood Park to allow park views. The plan aims to create green spaces where residential areas and parks connect naturally, enabling residents to enjoy a pleasant living environment.

Infrastructure to improve traffic and parking conditions will also be expanded. Surrounding roads will be widened, and a traffic plaza and parking lot will be installed along Hoe-an Boulevard to accommodate traffic demand from the Tanbul District development while improving traffic and parking conditions in neighboring areas.

The Tanbul-dong area is a location where development demand from surrounding regions continues. Gyeonggi Province and Gwangju City determined that continuous small-scale individual development could lead to chaotic urban sprawl, and thus decided to pursue planned development that creates residential and infrastructure facilities together through the urban development zone designation.

Kim Hee-sung, head of Gyeonggi Province's Urban Policy Division, said “The Tanbul District is a project that plans multi-unit housing and parks and green spaces together, creating a nature-friendly residential environment in close proximity to nearby green spaces.” He added, “We will cooperate with Gwangju City to ensure that a pleasant urban environment in harmony with surrounding areas is created.”
