Jang Dong-hyuk Declares 'People Power 2.0' … Aims for Majority Victory in 2028 General Elections

People Power Party Chairman Jang Dong-hyuk has unveiled 'People Power 2.0,' a party reform initiative strengthening party member sovereignty and targeting victory in the 2028 general elections on the occasion of his one-year anniversary.

Chairman Jang held a one-year anniversary press conference at the National Assembly on the 26th, presenting the final goal of party reform as victory in the 2028 general elections and reclamation of power.

He stated, "We must achieve a majority victory in the 2028 general elections," and added, "We must establish a People Power-led administration where the People Power Party can take responsibility and properly operate state affairs."

Characterizing the past year as a time of party reconstruction and conservative consolidation, Chairman Jang set the goal for his remaining one-year term as expanding public sentiment.

Chairman Jang emphasized, "If the past year was a time to rebuild the fallen party and consolidate the scattered conservative movement, now is the time to begin building a bridgehead for victory," and stated, "Based on united party spirit, we will advance toward the 'sea of public opinion.'"

To achieve this, he will pursue the 'People Power 2.0, Four Major Innovation Project' centered on party member sovereignty, livelihood-focused party, communication-focused party, and values-based party.

First, party member sovereignty will be expanded. The plan is to strengthen decision-making structures centered on party members by allowing direct party member participation in selecting municipal and provincial party committee chairs and party chapter chairpersons. This is interpreted as reaffirming the commitment to implementing a voting system for party chapter chairpersons, which some sitting party lawmakers have been opposing.

The party's identity and human evaluation system will also be revised. The plan is to clarify the values the conservative party pursues and newly establish evaluation systems for National Assembly members and regional and local government leaders.

Communication within and outside the party will also expand. Expanded party leadership meetings will be regularized, and programs allowing direct public participation will increase. A livelihood policy task force directly under the party chairman will also be established to identify livelihood issues and strengthen policy response capabilities.

The opposition struggle stance will continue. In particular, the position is to strongly push forward on preventing trials regarding President Lee Jae-myung, blocking attempts at constitutional amendment for consecutive terms, and repealing the Yellow Envelope Act. Chairman Jang stated, "Fighting against government tyranny and protecting national sovereignty is the reason for the opposition party's existence," and added, "We will establish a vibrant system enabling the party to fight properly."

Changes in party organization and personnel composition were also signaled. He said, "With my remaining one-year term, I will now make a new start," and stated, "I will reform from within and lead complete change."

He further emphasized, "I will fill the party with talented people capable of proper combat and vigorously push forward 'reform from within' to make the People Power Party a strong political party. I will open my heart further and gather both party spirit and public sentiment. I will focus more on responsibility than on authority."
