Jang Dong-hyuk: 'Majority Victory in 2028 General Election'... Declares 'People Power 2.0'

Jang Dong-hyuk, chairman of the People Power Party, unveiled 'People Power 2.0,' a party reform initiative strengthening party member sovereignty and targeting victory in the 2028 general election, on his first anniversary as chairman.

Chairman Jang held a press conference at the National Assembly on the 26th, presenting the ultimate goal of party reform as victory in the 2028 general election and regaining power.

He stated, "We must achieve a majority victory in the 2028 general election," adding "We must establish a People Power-led majority government where the People Power Party can take responsibility and properly manage state affairs."

Characterizing the past year as a time of party reconstruction and conservative unification, Chairman Jang set the goal for his remaining one-year term on expanding public support.

Chairman Jang emphasized, "If the past year was a time to rebuild our collapsed party and unite scattered conservatives, now is the time to build a proper bridgehead for victory," adding "Based on our united party will, we will advance toward the 'sea of public opinion.'"

To achieve this, the party will pursue the 'People Power 2.0, 4 Major Innovation Projects' centered on party member sovereignty, livelihood-focused party, communication-oriented party, and values-based party.

First, party member sovereignty will be expanded. The plan is to strengthen member-centered decision-making structures by enabling party members to directly participate in selecting city and provincial party chairpersons and party branch chairpersons. This reaffirms the party's commitment to introducing a member vote system for selecting party branch chairpersons, which some incumbent lawmakers have been opposing.

The party's identity and personnel evaluation system will also be revised. The plan is to clarify values as a conservative party and establish new evaluation systems for National Assembly members and heads of metropolitan and local governments.

Internal and external communication will also be expanded. Regular expanded party executive meetings will be held, and programs for direct public participation will increase. The plan includes establishing a presidential-level dedicated livelihood policy organization to identify livelihood issues and enhance policy responsiveness.

The party will continue its confrontational stance. In particular, it will prevent President Lee Jae-myung's trial issues and attempts to amend the constitution for consecutive terms, while strongly pushing to repeal the yellow envelope law. Chairman Jang stated, "Standing against the tyranny of the administration and protecting the people's sovereignty is the reason for the opposition party's existence," adding "We will establish a vibrant system that enables the party to fight properly."

Changes to party organization and personnel composition were also signaled. He said, "With my remaining one year in office, I will now embark on a new start," emphasizing "I will drive reform from within and lead complete change."

Further stating, "I will fill the party with talented individuals capable of fighting properly and make the People Power Party a strong party through 'reform from within,'" he stressed "I will open my heart more and gather both party and public will. I will focus more on responsibility than authority."
