Hwaseong Special City Wins "Global City Brand Award" in National Representative Economic Vitality City Category
Hwaseong Special City (Mayor Jung Myung-geun) announced that on the 26th, at the "4th 2026 Global City Brand Award" ceremony held at Fern Hall in Fereumtower, Jung-gu, Seoul, it was selected and awarded in the "National Representative Economic Vitality City Category."
The "Global City Brand Award," hosted by Sisa Journal and sponsored by the Korean Society of Local Government Studies, is an award that selects outstanding local governments that have discovered cities' unique brands and contributed to balanced development and improved sustainable competitiveness.
Since the launch of the 8th popularly elected administration, Hwaseong Special City has intensively fostered future strategic industries such as semiconductors, future mobility, and biotech. Based on this, it achieved investment attraction of 26 trillion 957.1 billion won, exceeding the original target of 20 trillion won, and has positioned itself as a key hub of South Korea's advanced industries by attracting investments from major domestic and foreign companies including ASML, ASM, Samsung Electronics, and Kia.
Additionally, it has laid the foundation for a sustainable industrial ecosystem where businesses and talent grow together by implementing the creation of a future-type industrial city "Hwaseong Technopol," designating a venture business promotion district linked to strategic industries in the Dongtan area, establishing an one-stop investment support system, and promoting support for SMEs, startups, and exports.
Based on the growth achievements of the 8th administration, the city will pursue the realization of a "Greater Growing Happy Economy Special City" with the vision of "Happiness and a Greater Hwaseong" in the 9th administration. In particular, with the goal of becoming "Korea's No. 1 Future Advanced City," it plans to strengthen competitiveness in future industries by promoting core projects including creating an aerospace industry cluster hub, designating an economic free zone, and establishing artificial intelligence (AI) industry infrastructure.
