[Suwon Ilbo = Reporter Park No-hun] The Gyeonggi Province Journalists Scholarship Foundation held its first regular board meeting in 2020 on the 12th and appointed Hong Ki-heon, founder and first chairman of the Gyeonggi Journalists Club, as the 11th chairman.
Newly appointed Chairman Hong will serve a two-year term as chairman of the Gyeonggi Province Journalists Scholarship Foundation, which was established in 1989 to help the children of local journalists pursue their studies with pride.
Chairman Hong began his journalism career as an MBC reporter and subsequently served as representative director and president of Gyeonggi Ilbo, founder and first chairman of the Gyeonggi Journalists Club, chairman of the Suwon City Council, chairman of the Gyeonggi Multicultural Love Association, and chairman of the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation.
At the board meeting, Kim Myeon-ki, a certified public accountant, and Yoon Jae-jun, former vice president of Gyeongin Ilbo, were elected as auditors. The bylaws were amended to expand the scope and scale of scholarship activities and more clearly realize the foundation's scholarship philosophy.
Meanwhile, the 11th board of directors includes Shin Seon-chul, chairman of Gyeonggi Ilbo; Park Seok-tae, former news production director of T-Broad Suwon Broadcasting; Kim Jae-ok, chairman of the Memorial Association for 33 Representatives of the Nation; Jang Seong-geun, former chairman of Gyeonggi Central Bar Association; Yoo Jae-myung, news director of OBS Gyeongin TV; and Lee Jae-gyo, secretary-general of the Gyeonggi Journalists Club.
Chairman Hong Ki-heon stated, "It is a heavy responsibility to take on the chairmanship of the Gyeonggi Province Journalists Scholarship Foundation, which marks its 30th anniversary this year," and added, "I will uphold the legacy of my predecessors, further activate the scholarship foundation, and take the lead in discovering talented individuals."
