'Under Construction Until December 2029' Full-Scale Traffic Measures for Hwasan Underground Underpass

First Vice Mayor Kim Hyun-su of Suwon Special City visited the Hwasan Underground Underpass extension construction site on the 24th to inspect traffic flow resulting from lane reductions, and urged public officials to "manage the site thoroughly so that inconvenience to citizens is minimized."

Due to the Hwasan Underground Underpass extension project, the underpass lanes have been reduced from four lanes to two lanes since the 20th, causing vehicle congestion during rush hours and on weekends. The Hwasan Underground Underpass extension project aims to improve traffic in the Suseong-ro area in accordance with the development of the Daeyupyeong district and is scheduled to continue until December 2029.

To minimize inconvenience to citizens due to the extension project, Suwon City has installed banners and signage at 150 locations near the construction site informing drivers of the reduced lanes and detour routes. Construction information is also being provided through road electronic message signs (VMS), bus arrival notifications, and navigation systems throughout Suwon to minimize citizen confusion.

Additionally, exemplary drivers and traffic coordinators have been deployed at major intersections on Suseong-ro and detour routes to guide and manage traffic. Notices have been distributed to nearby apartments and large commercial facilities, and briefing sessions have been held for residents of the adjacent neighborhoods (Jeongja 2-dong, Jeongja 3-dong, Hwaseo 1-dong, and Hwaseo 2-dong).

Attending the on-site inspection were Ko Ho, Director of Urban Policy at Suwon City, Kim In-bae, Mayor of Jangan-gu, and Hwang Gyou-don, Mayor of Paldal-gu.

First Vice Mayor Kim Hyun-su stated, "Actively gather opinions from citizens and identify inconveniences in detail so that immediate improvement measures can be reviewed," and urged, "For areas requiring supplementation, coordinate with relevant departments and implement changes promptly."
