Yongin Special City Requests 1 Million Tons Increase in Tap Water Supply for Semiconductor Industrial Complex

Yongin Special City announced on the 27th that it has requested the government to increase tap water supply to the semiconductor industrial complex by 1 million tons (100,000㎥).

The city made this proposal at an 'Integrated Water Supply Project Inspection Meeting for Yongin Semiconductor Industrial Complex' held at Yongin City Hall's Vision Hall on that day, chaired by Geum Han-seung, First Vice Minister of the Ministry of Climate Energy and Environment. The meeting was attended by Lee Seung-hwan, director of the Han River Basin Environmental Office, officials from Gyeonggi Province and the Korea Water Resources Corporation, and Hwang Jun-gi, second deputy mayor of Yongin City. Participants discussed the project's progress and water supply plans aligned with semiconductor fab operational schedules.

The city requested an additional 100,000㎥ of tap water supply, citing difficulties in reflecting water volumes in the water supply improvement master plan in a timely manner as the city rapidly grows due to mega-scale semiconductor projects.

The city also requested prompt approval of plans to expand the Pyeongchang Water Distribution Reservoir from its current capacity of 6,600㎥ to 28,600㎥. The city had previously submitted an expansion request in June due to the surge in development following the full-scale construction of SK Hynix's fab.

A city official said, "We will cooperate well with the central government and support the semiconductor project without disruption."
