Suwon City to Build a Citizen-Centered Smart City
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Kang Han-seo] Suwon City has formed a task force (working group) to smoothly promote the Smart City Challenge project.
On the 11th, the city held the task force's first strategy meeting at the Disaster and Safety Situation Room in City Hall and agreed to actively cooperate in promoting the Smart City Challenge project.
The 'Smart City Challenge Project,' overseen by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, is a project that uses the creative ideas of local governments, private companies, and universities to commercialize and spread Smart Solution services that can solve urban problems, thereby fostering and supporting new businesses.
Suwon City was selected as a project site last May.
The task force includes Suwon City as well as governance from 11 companies, including Dankook University and Daeyoung Ubitec, which are in charge of establishing the challenge project plan, and Samsung SDS, Innodep, and KT.
The corporate governance provides smart city solutions and ideas, and supports the collection and use of data for project demonstration. Suwon City provides budgetary and administrative support for project promotion, such as a regulatory sandbox.
By the end of this year, the city will promote the 'New 1794 King Jeongjo No.1 Project,' centered on Haenggung-dong, Paldal-gu.
Based on 5G technology, the city will collect and analyze urban data in real time and carry out a 'Mobile Digital Twin' project in which citizens hold sovereignty over the data.
The city plans to provide the 'Haenggung-dong in My Hands' solution in the area of Suwon Hwaseong, Korea's first planned city built by King Jeongjo in 1794.
Meanwhile, a smart city is a so-called 'smart city' that networks public functions by applying cutting-edge information and communication technology (ICT) to public services. It is a future-oriented advanced city where the internet can be accessed anytime and anywhere and cutting-edge IT technology can be used freely.
Cho In-sang, head of the Planning and Coordination Office and leader of the Smart City Challenge project's working group, said, "We will cooperate with corporate governance to build a smart city where citizens are at the center," adding, "We will do our best to create new businesses and jobs through this project."
