[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Kang Han-seo] Suwon City held a 'Visiting Community Leaders Meeting' on July 11 at the multipurpose room of the Gwonseon 2-dong Administrative Welfare Center and heard residents' views on local issues including the Gwonseon District urban development project.
The meeting was attended by 25 officials including Lee Tack-yong, head of Gwonseon-gu Office, Lee Jae-myeon, director of the City Planning Division, Lee Chang-hwan, director of the Urban Development Division, Kim Kang-sik, Provincial Councilor, Moon Byung-geun, City Councilor, and residential representatives from each complex in the Aipak City of Gwonseon-gu.
The Gwonseon District is a place where residents' complaints frequently occur regarding facility installation including commercial and retail facilities, residential centers, and schools following the completion of the 'Gwonseon District urban development project' in June 2014.
At the meeting, community leaders presented various opinions including the construction of a complex sports facility within the Gwonseon District, establishment of new elementary and middle schools, and utilization of undeveloped land.
One resident attending the meeting said, "Please start development as soon as possible so that undeveloped land in the complex can be used in various ways such as commercial and retail facilities and single-family homes."
Another resident said, "The project that many residents are most curious about and very interested in is the 'military airport relocation' project," and requested, "Please arrange a business briefing session so that not only community representatives but all residents who wish to attend can hear about the 'military airport relocation project.'"
In addition, various opinions were raised including the establishment of new elementary and middle schools and the construction of a dong administrative welfare center.
Lee Tack-yong, head of Gwonseon-gu Office, said, "We will cooperate with Suwon City's Military Airport Relocation Cooperation Division to hold a resident briefing session as soon as possible and share progress updates," and added, "We will also create channels for the dong office to communicate regularly with residents and listen to the voices of the community."
