Pyeongtaek City and Camp Humphreys Receive U.S. Army's Community Partnership Award
[Suwon Ilbo=Seo Dong-young] Pyeongtaek City and Camp Humphreys, a U.S. Army installation located in Pyeongtaek, have been recognized as exemplars of Korean-American friendship.
Camp Humphreys announced on the 19th that the U.S. Army has selected Pyeongtaek City and Camp Humphreys for the U.S. Army Community Partnership Award. Pyeongtaek City and Camp Humphreys were among nine other installations and communities selected worldwide.
The awards ceremony will be held on the 5th of next month at the Pentagon Hall of Honor. Colonel Michael Tremblay of Camp Humphreys and Lee Jong-ho, Vice Mayor of Pyeongtaek City, are scheduled to receive the award jointly.
Camp Humphreys stated that the award recognizes the outstanding friendly relations between the base and Pyeongtaek City and the excellence of their diverse cooperative projects.
Camp Humphreys and Pyeongtaek City are conducting various cultural exchange activities through the International Cultural Exchange Foundation. Through memorandums of understanding with Pyeongtaek University, Hoseo University, and Namseoul University, the base provides an internship program in which local university students gain experience in American culture and practical work over a six-month period at the base. Additionally, through monthly joint operational meetings, the base and Pyeongtaek City have resolved various issues related to the relocation of the U.S. military base in Korea.
