Suwon Achieves 3rd Place Overall Competitiveness in 'Korea Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index 2019'
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Suwon has ranked 3rd in overall competitiveness in the city category based on the survey and analysis results of the 'Korea Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index (KLCI) 2019' conducted by the Korea Public Governance Research Institute.
Lee Ki-heon, President of the Korea Public Governance Research Institute, visited the office of Jo Cheong-sik, First Vice Mayor of Suwon City, on the 3rd and presented him with a certification plaque.
Since 1996, the Korea Public Governance Research Institute has annually surveyed and analyzed the local autonomy competitiveness index for local governments nationwide. This year, it conducted a survey from June to September targeting 226 cities, counties, and districts.
The institute compiled statistical yearbooks of local governments and official statistical data from relevant ministries and organizations, measured scores in three categories—'management resources,' 'management activities,' and 'management performance'—and evaluated the overall competitiveness of cities, counties, and districts based on the total score.
As a result of the evaluation, Suwon ranked 1st in the 'management activities' category and 3rd in overall competitiveness in the city category. Overall competitiveness rose five levels from 2018 (8th place), and the city was also selected as one of the top five local governments in the 'innovative growth' category.
Jo Cheong-sik, First Vice Mayor of Suwon, stated, "The high overall competitiveness demonstrates that our city possesses excellent human resources and superior infrastructure and industrial foundations. In particular, ranking 1st in the management activities category is a result that clearly demonstrates the excellence of our city's administrative capacity."
