Suwon City Holds '2019 Five Overseas Official Travel Cases Presentation'

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Suwon City held a '2019 Overseas Official Travel Best Practices Presentation' in the city hall conference room on the afternoon of the 9th to share the results of site visits to advanced institutions in various fields among civil servants and reflect them in city administration.

The presentation was organized to have five teams selected from overseas official travel cases from this year present their results and share them with other employees.

The presented best practices include ▲Participation in the iF Design Award ceremony and SAP smart city sharing (Information Communication Division) ▲Participation in the 2019 Eco-Mobility Day (Eco-Mobility Division) ▲International health project with sister city Cambodia (Jangan-gu Health Center, Public Health Administration Division) ▲Benchmarking advanced museums (Suwon Museum) ▲Benchmarking arboretum advanced sites (Park Management Division), and others.

The Smart City team, which visited SAP—a world-renowned software company that began in Waldorf, a small German town, in March—introduced systems that intelligently manage waste and water, and shared innovative cases such as customized shoe production. Through this, they conveyed that there is a need for consideration on ways to effectively develop the city and the direction of city development that people find easy and comfortable.

Additionally, the Eco-Mobility Division team, which attended the Eco-Mobility Day held in Paris, France in October, introduced cases of operating Paris's public bike-sharing system Vélib', the pedestrian-focused 'La Défense,' Paris's public transportation system, and bicycle infrastructure experiences. They conveyed that Suwon City needs a vision and goal-setting for eco-friendly transportation policies.

The Jangan-gu Health Center team, which supported physical examinations and basic medical clinic operations for students in Suwon Village, Cambodia in July, explained the process and results of the international health project conducted with the participation of volunteer nurses from nearby nursing colleges and support from local specialists and the Suwon Optometrists Association.

The Suwon Museum team shared the results of visiting the British Museum, Tate Modern, Musée Guimet, and Musée de Cluny in September, visiting major museums in the UK and France. In particular, they proposed replica consultation after viewing the portrait of Chae Je-gong held by the British Museum, and achieved results such as confirming related materials from the period when Na Hye-seok, a representative female painter of Suwon, stayed in Paris.

Finally, the Park Management Division team visited London, Colchester, and Sheffield in the UK in May and collected advanced cases for creating the Suwon Arboretum, which were applied to the detailed design. In particular, they shared insights that professional management personnel and volunteer programs are necessary to implement Suwon City's unique arboretum and enhance garden maintenance effectiveness.

The city plans to evaluate and award the five overseas official travel cases presented on this day based on appropriateness to travel objectives, feasibility of future city administration reflection, content and presentation skills, and other criteria.
