Suwon City Cracks Down on Illegal Taxi Practices During Year-End Season
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Suwon City has launched an initiative to eliminate illegal taxi practices such as passenger refusal and solicitation ahead of the year-end season.
The city will conduct intensive crackdowns on illegal taxi operations throughout December—when foot traffic increases—in cooperation with the National Taxi Workers Union Suwon branch and the Suwon Individual Taxi Association.
Enforcement operations will focus on five locations where taxi-related complaints frequently occur: Nahyeseok Street, Suwon Station, areas in front of Samsung Electronics, Yeongdeung Station vicinity, and Maetan main commercial district. Inspections will be concentrated from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. the following day.
Key enforcement targets include ▲passenger refusal ▲illegal operations outside designated service areas ▲excessive fare charging (fare haggling) ▲ride-sharing ▲credit card payment refusal and failure to issue receipts ▲illegal parking (solicitation) and others.
When illegal practices are identified, strong administrative measures such as fines will be imposed accordingly, and traffic law and courtesy training will be provided to the relevant transport operators and workers.
Suwon City previously conducted a promotional campaign on December 12th at 8 p.m. along Nahyeseok Street in Ingye-dong and at the taxi stand at Suwon Station to eliminate illegal taxi practices.
Campaign participants including Suwon City Traffic Guidance Team staff and representatives from the National Taxi Workers Union Suwon branch and individual taxi associations promoted awareness about prohibitions on passenger refusal and solicitation, as well as bans on credit card payment refusal and failure to issue receipts.
A city official stated, "We will conduct intensive enforcement operations during the year-end season when illegal taxi practices increase to minimize inconvenience to citizens," and added, "We will continue to do our best to foster a safe and comfortable transportation culture in Suwon City."
