Giro Senior Center Named 2019 Best Senior Center in Suwon
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Suwon City presented a "Exemplary Senior Center" plaque on the 19th to Giro Senior Center in Jangan-gu (68 Suseong-ro 245beon-gil), which was selected as an exemplary senior center in the '2019 Exemplary Senior Center Evaluation.'
The 'Exemplary Senior Center Evaluation' is a project conducted by the city to evaluate and award the operational achievements of senior centers within the city. This year, officials from each district's senior citizen association branch (senior center program managers) and private experts related to senior centers visited and evaluated 50 senior centers that were selected in the first round from 512 senior centers.
Evaluation criteria included ▲operational status ▲member management ▲facility and equipment management ▲community volunteer activities, and others.
A total of 16 senior centers were selected as exemplary senior centers, including 1 grand prize winner, 3 excellence award recipients, 4 merit award recipients, and 8 encouragement award recipients. Exercise equipment was awarded to the grand prize and excellence award winners, while rice was provided to senior centers selected for merit and encouragement awards.
Giro Senior Center received high scores in community volunteer activities and self-governance. Shin Gap-sin, chairman of Giro Senior Center, said, "We will create an environment where members who visit Giro Senior Center can enjoy themselves, and we will actively participate in social volunteer activities to contribute to the local community."
Officials including Kwon Chan-ho, director of the City Welfare and Women's Bureau, Choi Jung-yeol, director of the City Elderly Welfare Division, and Shin Gap-sin, chairman of Giro Senior Center, attended the plaque ceremony.
Director Kwon Chan-ho of the Welfare and Women's Bureau said, "We will continue to publicize exemplary senior center success cases to widely promote healthy senior center culture," and added, "We will make efforts to create conditions that allow elderly residents to more comfortably enjoy leisure activities."
