Suwon City Bus Stops Now Allow Pre-Check of In-Bus Congestion Levels
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Moving forward, Suwon City's transit system will see improved convenience for bus passengers with the implementation of a system that allows pre-checking of bus congestion levels.
Suwon City announced on the 3rd that it will begin this month the 'Bus Information System Construction Project,' which it has been developing since June of last year.
The Bus Information System Construction Project proceeded through the city's own project of replacing 30 obsolete 'bus arrival displays' and a national fund-matching project of newly installing 38 village bus arrival displays in public transportation underserved areas. The total project cost was 920 million won.
In particular, improvements have been made to link in-bus congestion information and fine dust information with the bus arrival display system.
Based on standard medium-sized city buses, when the number of passengers on board is 20 or less, it displays 'available,' 35 or less displays 'moderate,' and 36 or more displays 'congested' on the bus arrival display, allowing passengers to check this information and choose their desired bus.
Since beginning a bus information system pilot project in 2006, the city has annually expanded bus arrival displays to improve public transportation services, and currently ranks first in adoption rate within Gyeonggi Province, with installations at 1,043 out of 1,081 bus stops.
Additionally, the city has made efforts to develop new services such as citizen information provision through bus arrival displays and provide improved services to citizens.
The head of the city's Urban Safety Integrated Center stated, "Going forward, we will continue to develop various services from the perspective of bus users to improve the public transportation environment and convenience."
