Yeongtong-gu Imposes 643 Million Won in Environmental Improvement Charges on Diesel Vehicle Owners
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Yeongtong-gu has imposed 643 million won in environmental improvement charges for the first period of 2020 on 11,580 vehicle owners who use diesel fuel.
Environmental improvement charges are designed to promote pollution reduction by requiring polluters to bear the costs of treating pollutants, and to stably secure funding for environmental investments.
This environmental improvement charge applies to usage from the second half of 2019, with a payment deadline of the 31st of this month. Payment can be made through internet banking (virtual accounts), bank ATMs, We-Tax (www.wetax.go.kr), internet giro (www.giro.or.kr), and ARS credit card payment (1899-7500).
For vehicles with ownership changes due to sales, scrapping, or cancellation after the first period environmental improvement charge, owners must check the billing period on the notice. In cases where Tier 1 or Tier 2 diesel particulate filters (DPF) are installed, environmental improvement charges are temporarily exempted for three years, and owners can apply for refunds at the Yeongtong-gu Office's Environment and Sanitation Division.
If environmental improvement charges for one year are paid in advance, a 10 percent reduction can be received depending on the period. If the second period environmental improvement charges scheduled for September are paid early in March, a 10 percent reduction is applied for the second period only.
Meanwhile, the district is implementing a "payment deadline reminder text message service" for applicants.
