Please Don't Come to See the Cherry Blossoms. Instead, Let Us Comfort Your Disappointment
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Park No-hoon] Gyeonggi Province will implement strict physical (social) distancing measures during the first and second weekends of April, including controlling general public vehicle access to the Gyeonggi Province Government Complex and strengthening crackdowns on illegal street vendors and illegal parking.
Gyeonggi Province has prepared a "Physical Distancing Implementation Plan for Cherry Blossom Blooming Season" containing these measures and began implementation from the 3rd. The province had previously canceled the spring flower festival originally planned for early April to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Accordingly, the province will implement comprehensive vehicle access control to the Gyeonggi Province Government Complex interior and outer parking lots, and the nearby Suwon Cultural Center from the evening of April 3rd through Sunday.
In addition, enhanced patrols will be conducted on the road in front of the government complex's main gate until April 10th to prevent illegal street vendor operations and illegal parking.
The province will conduct intensive crackdowns on illegal street vendors and illegal parking along major walking trails of Paldal Mountain near the Gyeonggi Province Government Complex until April 12th in cooperation with Suwon City.
In addition, the province has installed banners and standing signs on nearby roads urging participation in physical distancing campaigns such as refraining from viewing spring flowers.
Along with these physical distancing measures, Gyeonggi Province will conduct an "Online Spring Flower Festival" from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the 8th through the Gyeonggi Province YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/ggholics) to comfort residents' disappointment over the cancellation of the spring flower festival.
Cast members from the entertainment podcast "Awkward Romance" (Kim Myo-sung, MC Jang Won, Oh Chang-seok, Kim Ik-geun) and singer Kwon In-ha will appear and conduct promotional activities for physical distancing along with introducing various stories and songs.
An official from Gyeonggi Province said, "As COVID-19 spreads to the Seoul metropolitan area, the importance of physical distancing is growing," and urged, "If you must take a walk, please be sure to wear a mask and maintain a distance of at least 2 meters from others to practice physical distancing."
