[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Residents of Suwon Ipark City are frustrated with Suwon City's evasive response after demanding 'opposition to zoning changes in Gwonseon District' and other measures.

Residents of Ipark City, including the Suwon Ipark City Village Education Community Promotion Committee, held a meeting with Suwon City departments on the 30th of last month at Suwon City Hall regarding 'opposition to zoning changes in Gwonseon District' and 'installation of a Bundang Line branch line extension to resolve traffic congestion at Deokyeong-daero and Gwongok Intersection.'

This was a session for Suwon City to respond to resident complaints raised on the 22nd of last month regarding the related issues.

At the time, residents demanded the original plans proceed for commercial complex land (D1) and sales facility land (F1, F2) within the Gwonseon District urban plan, and requested swift construction of the Bundang Line branch extension at Gwongok Intersection.

After the meeting, a committee official said, "We received no satisfactory answer from the city. Regarding the Gwonseon District development plan, I asked the Urban Planning Division officer whether a zoning change application had been submitted by the developer Hyundai Industrial Development, but he said 'no comment' without answering. If a request came in, just say it came in, or if it didn't, say it didn't—what is this 'no comment' about?"

Furthermore, the committee official said, "I heard that 'the feasibility study scheduled for July was delayed due to COVID-19.' I don't understand what feasibility studies have to do with COVID-19," sighing. They added, "It seems Suwon City is not listening to the voices of residents."

In response, the Urban Planning Division officer said, "We will gather resident opinions in advance before a zoning change is decided."

Also, an official from the Urban Transportation Division, who is in charge of the Bundang Line branch extension, stated, "It is difficult to hold interim briefings due to COVID-19. While I cannot make a definitive promise, we are making multifaceted efforts to proceed with research projects."
