Suwon City and LH's Multi-Child Household Suwon Human Housing Support Agreement Bears First Fruit
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] The 'Multi-Child Household Suwon Human Housing Support Agreement' concluded between Suwon City and LH (Korea Land & Housing Corporation) in July has borne its first fruit.
According to Suwon City, a five-child family moved into the 'Multi-Child Suwon Human Housing' supplied by LH on the 15th. The multi-child Suwon Human Housing into which 45-year-old An O.O.'s family moved is a multi-unit house completed in 2019 (located in Guun-dong, Gwonseon-gu).
The housing has a usable area of 64.28 square meters with 3 rooms and 2 bathrooms. Within a radius of 800 meters, there are daycare centers and elementary and middle schools, allowing children to commute conveniently.
The city and LH concluded the 'Multi-Child Household Suwon Human Housing Support Agreement' on July 2nd and established a cooperative system. LH supplies some of its leased housing as 'Multi-Child Suwon Human Housing,' while Suwon City provides support for lease deposits and rental fees.
The lease deposit for the multi-child Suwon Human Housing into which An's family moved is 10.06 million won, with a monthly rental fee of 254,000 won.
LH supplies leased housing to households with four or more children as Suwon Human Housing and manages and operates the facilities. It plans to supply 30 to 35 units annually from 2021 to 2025.
An's family became the first tenant of LH-supplied multi-child Suwon Human Housing and the 17th Suwon Human Housing tenant overall. Suwon City directly purchased and supplied the 1st through 16th Suwon Human Housing units.
The city has been purchasing housing since 2018 with the goal of 'securing 200 Suwon Human Housing units,' but faced practical difficulties such as budget constraints. By concluding the agreement with LH, these concerns were resolved.
'Multi-Child Suwon Human Housing,' the city's representative residential welfare policy, is rental housing provided free of charge to homeless multi-child households struggling to secure homes. Priority is given sequentially to households with four or more children without housing (residents of Suwon City for 2 years or more) whose income is 100% or less of the average monthly household income of urban workers in the previous year.
Beginning with a six-child family that became the first tenant in November 2018, five households moved in during 2018, nine households in 2019, and three households including An's family this year. To date, multi-child Suwon Human Housing has been provided to 17 households with five or more children.
The Suwon Human Housing lease period is 2 years, but tenants can renew their contracts up to nine times, allowing them to reside for up to 20 years maximum. Since residents only need to pay management fees, multi-child families facing financial difficulties can reduce their housing burden.
To allow multi-child families to live without worrying about noise between floors, the city purchases first-floor units whenever possible and provides housing in areas desired by beneficiaries, taking into consideration parents' workplaces and children's schools.
In September, a five-child household is expected to move into the second multi-child Suwon Human Housing supplied by LH (located in Yeonghwa-dong). Suwon City plans to supply seven additional multi-child Suwon Human Housing units by year-end.
A city official stated, "It was difficult for us to supply multi-child Suwon Human Housing to all homeless households with four or more children on our own, but thanks to LH, we can now pursue this project stably," adding, "We hope that residential welfare projects for multi-child families will be pursued at the national level."
