[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] The Suwon Foundation for Sustainable Cities (Chairman Lee Jae-jun) announced that it held a graduation ceremony for the Maesan-dong Urban Regeneration College on the 4th.

The Maesan-dong Urban Regeneration College, operated since June 23 for local residents in the Maesan-dong Urban Regeneration New Deal project area, is a capacity-building program in which residents identify and resolve local issues on their own.

Through opinion gathering to enable residents to practically exercise their capabilities within the community through necessary learning, the program was structured with customized lectures in three themes: local festival planning, global capacity building, and cooperative establishment.

The local festival planning team learned how to plan festivals with the power of residents using local assets. Taking advantage of the high number of multicultural families in the neighborhood, they planned 'Bazar Maesan,' an online multicultural festival. Details about Bazar Maesan, which will be held this month, can be found on the SNS of the Suwon Foundation for Sustainable Cities.

The global capacity building team, based on the regional characteristics of high foreign foot traffic, will learn about foreign cultures and foreign language conversation to strengthen the capacities of merchants, and will continue to study even after completion.

The cooperative establishment team strengthened organizational unity among residents through in-depth learning from cooperative establishment to business activation for the sustainable operation of resident organizations.

Residents and merchants of Maesan-dong who attended the graduation ceremony pledged their commitment to revitalizing the Maesan-dong area with the power of residents.

Meanwhile, Maesan-dong was selected as a pilot project site for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Urban Regeneration New Deal in December 2017, and urban regeneration projects are underway to lay the groundwork for recovering core functions and revitalizing the city center.
