Suwon City Opens Sixth Daehamkke Childcare Center

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Suwon City recently established the 'Sixth Daehamkke Childcare Center' at 40, 820 Kwonseon-ro, Yeongdeungpo-gu.

The sixth Daehamkke Childcare Center in Suwon has a total floor area of 199.7 square meters and includes three program rooms, a teacher's office, and a counseling room. It has a capacity of 39 children. It is operated by the nonprofit organization Uri Nuri Youth Association.

Operations began on December 1st, and an opening ceremony was scheduled for the 8th, but was canceled due to the escalation to Level 2.5 'social distancing' (effective from 0:00 on the 8th). Suwon Mayor Yeom Tae-young substituted the opening ceremony by inspecting the facility.

The Daehamkke Childcare Center, one of the citizen promise projects of the seventh popular election term, is a facility that provides after-school childcare services to all elementary school children (ages 6-12) in need of care.

All elementary school students can use the center regardless of their parents' income level, with priority given to lower-grade students, dual-income families, and children from large families.

The center provides meals and snacks, and operates play activities, learning guidance, and specialized programs. It operates from Monday to Friday. During the school year, it is open from noon to 8 p.m., and during school holidays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The city aims to operate 20 Daehamkke Childcare Centers by 2022. The plan is to open the seventh center this year, add five more centers in 2021, and eight additional centers in 2022.
