Suwon City Provides Heating Subsidies and Briquettes to Low-Income Households
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Suwon City announced on the 23rd that it will provide heating subsidies and briquettes to low-income households that have not received heating-related support.
The city will provide heating subsidies of 150,000 won per household to 500 low-income households (at or below 120% of median income) that are not included in heating support programs such as energy vouchers and briquette coupons but are facing financial difficulties. For 25 households using briquette boilers, the city will provide briquettes to be used for three months (629 briquettes per household).
The funds were secured through donations from citizens who participated in the "My First Disaster Basic Income Donation" campaign.
The first priority for heating subsidy recipients is households facing financial hardship among those whose "emergency and unlimited care services support has been discontinued." The second priority is households facing financial difficulties that are "not classified as recipients of basic livelihood support," and the third priority is "welfare blind spot households deemed to need heating assistance."
A city official stated, "Due to the economic downturn caused by COVID-19, vulnerable groups will face a particularly difficult winter this year," adding, "We will actively support our neighbors in welfare blind spots so they can spend the winter warmly."
The city's heating (energy) support programs include ▲heating subsidies for low-income elderly households ▲fuel cost assistance for emergency unlimited care services ▲heating subsidies for households with disabled members ▲energy vouchers ▲briquette coupon support ▲kerosene (heating oil) coupon support ▲briquette assistance.
