[Suwon Ilbo=Seo Dong-young Reporter] Suwon City announced on the 12th that it will operate the non-face-to-face environmental education program "Suwon Environmental Classroom Accessed via QR Code" at 146 bus stops throughout the city.

"Suwon Environmental Classroom Accessed via QR Code" is a program that provides environmental education content to citizens by utilizing QR codes attached to bus stops.

The city conducted a pilot operation of the program at 30 bus stops in the city from September to December last year, and will expand it to 146 locations this year (Jangan 30·Gwonseon 36·Paldal 38·Yeongtong 42).

The program is being operated at bus stops around Suwon City Hall and Sungkyunkwan University Station, where wireless internet (WiFi) is installed. By scanning the promotional material (QR code) attached to the bus stop with a smartphone, users are connected to the Naver Blog for "Suwon Environmental Classroom Accessed via QR Code" (https://blog.naver.com/swenvedu).

In January, content titled "Omniscient Wildlife Perspective - Why Large-billed Crows Appear in Suwon (Webtoon Format)" was posted, and in February, "Proper Waste Sorting Methods for Lunar New Year Holiday (Card News Format)" was posted.

From March to December, educational content on topics such as fine dust, Suwon's trees, marine environment, Chailbochima, climate change, and eight flagship species will be produced as videos, webtoons, and card news and posted sequentially. Content will be uploaded on the 1st of each month.

Starting in March, the city will also operate "2021 Visiting Suwon Environmental Classroom" in parallel. This year, expert instructors will provide education to 175 classrooms of students (4th grade elementary school students and students in afterschool care programs) on topics such as "forests, woodlands, water, rivers, and wetlands."

The first half of the year will be operated in a non-face-to-face (online) format, and it will be converted to face-to-face education after the COVID-19 situation subsides.

A city official stated, "We hope citizens will utilize environmental education content while waiting for the bus," and added, "We will continue to operate efficient educational programs that reflect the characteristics of Suwon as an environmental education city."
