Suwon Operates '2022 Eco-Transport Day Car-Free Day' Events
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jung Jun-sung] Suwon City will operate the '2022 Eco-Transport Day Car-Free Day' events through the end of next month.
The 'Car-Free Day' is a resident-led eco-transport project that has been pursued annually since the 'Eco-Transport Suwon 2013' festival in 2013, when the world's first car-free village was implemented in the Haenggung-dong area of Suwon City.
Local residents voluntarily designate 'Car-Free Days' and plan and conduct various events including eco-transport-related campaigns.
This year, 'Car-Free Days' will be operated in the Jangan Gate Turtle Market Street area (October 8, 2-6 p.m.) △Baekseol Village Hyundai E&C; Apartment main gate~Suwon Dongshin Elementary School main gate (October 15, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.) △Gwonseon-gu Unam Apartment~Daelim Apartment (October 15, noon-4 p.m.) △Sandel Children's Park~Jihye Spring Intersection (October 14, noon-4 p.m.) △Sansam Children's Park area (October 22, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.).
On September 24, events were held at 'Haenggung-ro Craft Street (Suwon Hwaseong Business Office~Paldal Gate Tourism Information Center)' and 'Hwaseo-mun-ro area'.
Residents' groups, councils, and merchant associations in the Suwon area will voluntarily control vehicle traffic on 'Car-Free Days' and create car-free streets on roads and alleyways to enhance pedestrian convenience. Additionally, eco-transport-related campaigns and cultural events will be conducted.
Previously, the city recruited residents' groups in the Suwon area to plan and promote the entire process of the '2022 Eco-Transport Day Car-Free Day' event in July, evaluated project plans, and ultimately selected six locations.
