Suwon City Promotes 'Parks for All Citizens Activation Project'
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jung Jun-sung] Urban parks throughout Suwon will operate a diverse range of enriching programs including cultural performances, health and experiential programs, and citizen-participated flea markets to bring joy to residents.
Under the vision of 'New Light Parks for All Citizens,' the city announced on the 19th that it will promote the 'Parks for All Citizens Activation Project' that is always joyful and vibrant everywhere at a total of 11 parks—5 hub parks including Gwanggyo Lake Park and 6 other parks—to activate citizen-centered park use.
△Pet culture classes and festivals at Seoho Park and others (March–November, Pet Center), △'Music Picnic' and 'Walking Through the Forest' at Gwanggyo Lake Park (October, Suwon Cultural Foundation), △Youth Cultural Gathering Plaza at Olympic Park (October, Youth Culture Foundation), △Saebitt Busking at Manseok and Gwanggyo Lake Parks (first and second half of 2024, Culture and Arts Division), and other events will enable residents to enjoy diverse culture within parks.
Specialized park programs linked to the four seasons are also planned to operate. At hub parks including Manseok, Gwanggyo Lake, Ilwol, and Mulhyanggi Parks, seasonal specialized programs that all generations can view and enjoy will be held, including designation of spring flower hotspots, potted flower exhibitions, and rose of Sharon and potted plant and bonsai exhibitions themed around summer flowers. In autumn, poetry recitation programs in connection with literature clubs will be held, and competitions in drawing, reading, and essay writing will be hosted, while winter will offer unique attractions such as ice trees. With family-friendly folk game festivals and summer water parks operating, the joy of visiting parks is expected to double.
To provide health programs within parks, healing yoga, summer night running crews (Suwon Hwamun Cultural Foundation, Gwanggyo Lake Park), park healing programs—barefoot walking (Gwanggyo Lake Park and others), and health and wellness programs (Health Centers/Manseok, Sanulim, Youth Culture, and Yeunghung Parks and others) will be conducted. Additionally, at 10 locations including Gwanggyo Lake Park, guided forest experience programs in urban parks and woodworking experience centers will operate, providing healing spaces and services for all ages.
A city official stated, "Going forward, we will work to transform parks into groundbreaking cultural spaces where diverse needs are met and a landmark for social communication and emotion, becoming a social landmark," adding, "We will focus on activating citizen park use."
