Suwon Constructs '2025 Suwon Gender-Sensitive Statistics'

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jung Jun-seong] Suwon Special City is constructing ‘2025 Suwon Gender-Sensitive Statistics’ to be used as basic data for promoting gender equality policies.

On the 10th, the city held a ‘2025 Suwon Gender-Sensitive Statistics Research Project Kickoff Report Meeting’ in the city hall video conference room, attended by Kim Eun-ju, director of the Women and Family Division of Suwon City, officials from the Suwon City Research Institute, and research committee members from the Gyeonggi Province Women and Family Foundation. The Suwon City Research Institute will conduct the research through August.

‘Gender-sensitive statistics’ refers to all statistical data produced and presented to reflect the conditions and social contributions of women and men, and the needs and specific issues of both genders. It shows unequal phenomena caused by gender in various aspects of society and refers to all statistics created to mitigate and eliminate inequality.

Gender-sensitive statistics are an essential indicator for designation as a women-friendly city and must be produced periodically. The city has previously compiled the first gender-sensitive statistics in 2014, the second in 2017, and the third in 2022.

The ‘2025 Suwon Gender-Sensitive Statistics’ will conduct time-series analysis of data from the past three years (2022-2024).

After establishing a statistics and indicator system, the city will analyze the lives and status of women in Suwon and compile statistical tables by sector: △population △family △childcare △education △economic activity △welfare △health, and others.

The city plans to use the statistical data to establish and implement gender equality policies tailored to the characteristics of the Suwon region.

A city official stated, “By constructing gender-sensitive statistics, we will verify unequal situations by gender,” and added, “We will substantively build statistics so they can serve as basic data that can be actively reflected when establishing gender equality policies.”
