[Suwon Ilbo=Cheon Uihyeon Reporter] Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province will inspect 498 food preparation and retail establishments specializing in children's preferred foods around schools and private academies from the 25th to next month's 2nd.

The measure is aimed at strengthening food safety management at businesses handling children's food ahead of the second semester school opening.

The city has organized eight teams with 17 members, comprising 14 dedicated managers and 3 civil servants, for joint public-private inspections. Inspection targets include general restaurants, cafes, bakeries, convenience stores, stationery shops, supermarkets, school canteens, and unmanned food vending machines within 101 children's food safety protection zones.

The inspection teams will check the expiration dates of ice cream, snacks, and bread, as well as display and storage conditions and sanitation management status. They will focus on inspecting unmanned food vending machines, which are vulnerable in hygiene management. They will also verify the sale of high-calorie, low-nutrition foods and high-caffeine products. For violations, corrective measures such as on-site corrections, administrative sanctions, and re-inspections will be taken according to severity.
