Hwaseong Special District Holds Public Design Contest for Construction Site Temporary Fencing

Hwaseong Special District (Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun) announced it will hold the "2026 2nd Hwaseong Public Design Contest" on the theme of "Construction Site Temporary Fencing (Screens) Where Urban and Rural Areas Harmonize in Hwaseong Special District."

The contest was organized to increase citizens' interest in and participation in public design and to discover creative design ideas that embody the future vision of a Hwaseong Special District where everyone is happy.

The competition is divided into three categories: general, high school, and elementary school divisions. The general division is open to any Korean citizen aged 18 and older interested in public design, while the high school and elementary school divisions are open to students currently attending middle schools, high schools, and elementary schools located in Hwaseong City, respectively. All divisions accept individual submissions only, with one work per person.

The city plans to select a total of 20 winning works—8 from the general division, 6 from the high school division, and 6 from the elementary school division—and award them certificates from the Mayor of Hwaseong Special District and prize money. The prize money for the best work in each division is 5 million won for the general division, 2 million won for the high school division, and 1 million won for the elementary school division.

Those wishing to apply should submit required documents including application forms and work boards from 9:00 a.m. on September 14 to 11:59 p.m. on October 16.

The general and high school divisions accept submissions by email, while the elementary school division accepts original submissions at the Public Design Team of the Urban Planning Planning Division on the 1st floor of the Hwaseong Special District Government Main Building or at the nearest reading, township, or neighborhood administrative welfare center.

Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun of Hwaseong Special District said, "I hope this contest will incorporate citizens' diverse and unique ideas into public design and serve as an opportunity for citizens to become more familiar with public design. I also anticipate that many innovative works that reflect Hwaseong Special District's unique characteristics and urban values will be proposed for construction site temporary fencing that citizens encounter easily in their daily lives."
